Belonging

In Digital Story Telling, students explore what it means to them to belong to a community as they participate in an 8 week Digital Storytelling project, with support from digital media experts.

Timeline

The Digital Storytelling option starts on October 17 and ends the week of December 5th, 2022. A pre-recorded video is shared weekly. Classes participate in a weekly 15-30 minute live session.

Project Requirements

  1. Teachers participate in a 1hr orientation session.
  2. Students are given an opportunity to reflect and discuss their identity and sense of belonging.
  3. Teachers review scripts prepared by students.

*LEARN is developing a catalogue of project examples. We will reach out to select teachers (or Community Development Agents) to document their project.

Teachers will be provided with:

  • Question prompts for students
    (download pdf)
  • A one-pager outlining the steps of the project (download pdf)
  • Description of all artist-led sessions (upon registration confirmation)
  • Grading rubric or checklist (use is optional)

IN CLC SCHOOLS, TEACHERS CAN ASK THEIR SCHOOL’S COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENT TO HELP:

  • Coordinate activities with Hands on Media Education
  • Coordinate payment processes with LEARN and/or ELAN

Sam Asmar. LESS TALK! MORE ACTION!
My approach is to get students engaged in creating from the get-go!
As a teacher, project development specialist, and artist, my goal is to inspire people to learn through creation.

Whether the skill is writing, making a movie, recording a radio program, or selling art, the most powerful way to learn it is by doing it!
I help people develop successful artistic projects that reflect their own skills, abilities and passions.

I started as an incognito voice actor in Kindergarten, receiving my training from hours of study in front of television screens and performing for friends throughout my youth, and then for my students when I became a high school teacher. After graduating from McGill with a B.A. in English Lit and a B.Ed., I realized that art and creation would always be part of my teaching approach.
