SPEAQ Convention
November 11, 2023
Centre Sheraton, Laval

Once again, IntenSIG presented a well-received workshop at the 2023 SPEAQ Annual Convention. Our dedicated members skillfully organized four stations showcasing their favourite C1 and C3 activities to engaged participants. (The half workshop being a surprise for all who attended!) Following the workshop, attendees eagerly took part in a draw, resulting in 4 fortunate teachers winning exciting prizes.

Here is a recap of the session:

Corner #1: One Set of Flashcards, 5 Different Games

Sheena presented five short, fun activities that will help students practice functional language and question words-all with one set of flashcards! Watch her as she presents her version of “Headz Up” to our participants.

Corner #2: “Nice” Work!

How many words can you find to replace the adjective, “nice”? Annie shared many, with this C3 activity, Nice Work! In these activities, students  practice a wide range of adjectives to use in their writing, rather than always depending on high-frequency words like “nice”. What a fabulous activity!

Corner #3: My Picture Perfect AI Portrait

In Christine’s project, students will experience a diversity of steps in order to write a detailed, well-structured self-description as a prompt for creating their AI portrait. She shared graphic organizers, a detailed instruction sheet, 11 activities, wonderful images, vocabulary sheets, and lots of fun activities that will get students ready to create their own  picture perfect AI portrait!

Corner #4: Game On!

Kellylee presented a range of games that can be easily and effectively played by ESL students in the classroom. From Spot it! to Story Cubes, participants loved sampling these games where their students will have the opportunity to practice functional language, vocabulary, team-building coop skills, and problem-solving. All while playing games!

The Presentation has links to all the activities presented during the workshop.

They can also be found in the members section of the SPEAQ website. Thank you to SPEAQ for a fantastic convention!
