chalk.n.coffee: An ESL Podcast for the Times
We have recently been witness to an unprecedented generosity within our ESL community. Everyone is sharing ideas and offering help in a plethora of ways. Hello! My name is Jacqueline Mallais and I am the host of a new ESL podcast launched in April 2020, called chalk.n.coffee.
I love all things pedagogy — big ideas like theories, little ideas like sharing pronunciation tricks, daring ones like implementing Genius Hour and practical ones like how to teach ESL online. The chalk.n.coffee podcast is a way I can contribute to the sharing. It has become the place I get to have positive conversations about teaching ESL and find new ways to hone my craft. It is my hope that chalk.n.coffee does that for its listeners as well.
Chalk.n.coffee has two and a half episodes up and has discussed remote ESL teaching and differentiation in the ESL classroom. Upcoming episodes include conversations with some of Quebec’s major ESL community members like SPEAQ and the IESL Community, and how they serve as valuable resources for ESL teachers and student-teachers alike. Hopefully it will continue those water cooler conversations that seem to be inevitably interrupted by forgotten photocopies, an impromptu staff meeting or the bell. The show will continue to feature a variety of episodes for primary, secondary, and college ESL educators and include lesson plan ideas, practical advice, and interviews with inspiring teachers and researchers.
For the moment, chalk.n.coffee is a bi-monthly podcast with new episodes released on the first and third Sunday of each month.
Chalk.n.coffee is available on 7 platforms: Google Podcasts, Anchor.fm, Breaker, Pocket Casts, Radio Public, Spotify and iTunes.
Aside from my coffee cup, I am bringing 25 years of teaching experience, a couple of teaching degrees and lots of innovative and dynamic colleagues and friends to the table. So grab a cup of coffee, or tea and join us.
