Iroquois nations 1500

Discover the Algonquian language family’s territory and society by navigating the various sections at right.

Before beginning this section, it is important to note that Algonquian refers to a language family made up of many sovereign Nations and that we encourage you to identify which Algonquian Nations live closest to your community and seek out more information about that Nation’s historic and current realities. The name Algonquin is sometimes used to refer to the Anishinaabe Nation, which is only one Nation that is part of the larger Algonquian language family.
