A dialect is the way people speak in a particular part of a country, containing some different words and grammar, etc. A person’s dialect can tell you where exactly someone comes from!
“Dialect is a regional speech pattern that is identified by pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Every language has a range of dialects, and Canadian English is no exception. This massive country has many different regions and cultures that have affected the language over time. Eight different dialects can be found throughout Canada!”
Languages generally have many varieties, or dialects, and Indigenous languages in Canada are no exception. Many of these languages have several more or less mutually intelligible dialects, particularly when the language is distributed over a large area.
